The Arizona Senate has given initial approval to a revision of a 2014 law barring so-called “revenge porn.” House Bill 2561 passed on a voice vote Monday now awaits a formal vote.

Republican Rep. J.D. Mesnard of Chandler says the changes should address constitutional concerns raised by publishers and photographers in a lawsuit. But the groups that sued say they don’t allay concerns that the law made anyone distributing or displaying a nude image without explicit permission guilty of a felony.

Mesnard got unanimous support last year for his bill making it a crime for jilted lovers to post nude photos of their former partners online. The American Civil Liberties Union sued on behalf of three groups. The two sides agreed to block it to allow revisions.
