This was absolutely crazy.
An armed man wanted for kidnapping surrendered after an hour-long standoff with deputies following a wild pursuit that ended in a gun battle in South Los Angeles.
The man, driving a white SUV, ran roughshod through L.A. streets — nearly hitting a guy on a skateboard and waved at cars to let him through intersections, aerial footage showed.
The chase finally ended on a residential street near West 43rd Street and Vermont Avenue (map) around 5:30 p.m.
The man got out of the SUV and began walking toward deputies waving a gun and shouting, aerial video showed.
At that point, several shots were exchanged between the man and deputies.
The suspect was hit at least once and ran behind the vehicle, before walking toward a home where he collapsed on the front porch.
No deputies were injured.
